Not cut square
Enz64 - 9 months ago
In the 21st century, it isn’t unreasonable to ask for timber to be cut square. Sadly the short ends were several degrees off square which I didn’t spot until I started glueing the to the wall and wondering why my levels were off. Disappointed.

I bought this to replace some cladding which had to be removed to reroute the plumbing to a new toilet cistern. Unfortunately it turned out to be thinner than the original which was surprising as the standard thickness has been 8.5mm for years but this was only 7mm. I had to pack it out with veneer to make up the thickness but the tongue and groove didn't match up, so I had to modify to complete the job.The other problem I had was that I unpacked it a couple of days before doing the job to give the wood a chance to normalize and found that it all cupped very badly even though the backs had been kerfed to stop that problem. The wood was fairly clear but the knots which were evident fell out during the job so be warned, this is not a good product if you want to do a more than very average job.
In future I would buy from a builders merchant and be prepared to pay twice the price to get better quality. The three lengths I had left over have cupped so badly that they are only good enough for kindling.
Did The Job

Had to cover up a damp problem and this product did the job, easy to work with and light enough to use minimal fixtures. Out of two packs there were two damaged boards but 'hey ho' they will come in useful! All in all a bargain!
Just the job

Exactly what I needed to do the job. It was easily sawn and easily fitted.
