Features and benefits
The 3rd generation Nest Learning Thermostat is slimmer, sleeker and even more beautiful. With a bigger, sharper display and Farsight, you can see the time or the temperature you’ve set from across the room. And now it even controls your hot water tank. Nest is Wi-Fi & Bluetooth enabled; it doesn't require a Wi-Fi connection but if you are connected, additional features are available with the Nest apps
- Auto‐Schedule - Just turn it up and down. It learns the temperatures you like and creates a schedule for you
- Auto‐Away - It automatically adjusts the temperature after you’ve left. It can even turn off your hot water if you’re away for a few days
- Hot water - Now you can control your hot water tank. And give your hot water a boost when you need it
- Advanced modulation - The Nest Thermostat now uses OpenTherm technology to modulate your compatible, high‐efficiency condensing boiler. So you save even more energy
- Remote control - Change the temperature and control your hot water tank from anywhere using your mobile, tablet or laptop
|Network technology||Wi-Fi & Bluetooth|
|Smartphone compatibility||iOS (8.0 or later) & Android (4.0 or later)|

This review is awkward. I don’t know how to rate it. I was considering 2 or 5 stars.I absolutely love the product both the hardware and the application. Simple to use once you get used to it. Plenty of data to base your decision upon and it has saved me money.However, this is my second purchase. The first one gave up after 3 years. After following all the trouble shooting instructions, resetting and restarting various equipment it would not work correctly. I would have expected longer for a premium product. That being said I bought another!
Expensive for what it is

Nice unit and good to be able to update schedule from phone. However it's quite expensive for what it is.
Seems to work but not transparent

I have been using the Nest Thermostat for 2.5 weeks now. It's connected to my new boiler using Opentherm. The pre-heat function kicks in upto 4 hours before-hand so heating bills shot up. Had to turn off pre-heating. Difficult to assess if any real-world savings are being made as it's too early however based on currently daily readings not really. In summary, for the price of Nest it's not a clear-cut convincing purchase.
A Little Bit of a Letdown

My friends had been harping on about how great Nest Gen 3 is and how you can add other products to it.Although it is easy to turn the heating on and off and play with the temperature, unless I'm not using the Nest correctly, I personally would like to have a feature added whereby you can have the heating set up on a timer.If that feature is already on Nest 3, someone needs to show me how to use it so I can give it a 5* rating.

It's only a CH controller/room thermostat, but if you're going to buy one, this is the guy. Very cool Apple-like design with lots of nice features, but the main thing is, it intelligently adjusts to the position it is in to give you the right temp and save money. It works out what heating your room needs (how effective your heating system is/how good/bad your room retains its heat), set against the heat expected to be needed (ie weather/outside temp). So you just set what temp you want and when, at it learns and turns on your heating to get you there. But if you're out, the movement sensor will ease off the temp until you get home, as it also has a sensor that knows (through you phone location), to turn on heating for when you are home to save the most heat costs poss. Love it. Only downside is, it has been out several years, and I do feel there is another even better one around the corner - not just the cheaper scaled down 4th Gen/E version, but a real replacement...
